BREAST REDUCTION AND BREAST LIFT
- Reasons to have this surgery:
- Women whose breasts are too large frequently suffer from chronic back pain, discomfort from bra straps that cut into the skin and skin problems in the fold below the breast. The psychological stress is frequently equally burdening. Conservative treatment measures are often futile given that the cause of the problem, i.e. the malformation of the breast gland, is not addressed. Surgery is the only option that can eliminate these problems immediately and permanently. Even severe weight loss and pregnancy can result in the shrinking of the gland and simultaneous stretching of the skin, which can lead to the malformation of previously beautiful breasts.
- The surgical technique:
- During a breast reduction, the gland as well as some skin is removed. If the surgery is to achieve merely a breast lift, only skin is removed. Thanks to a special gland relocation technique the interior of the breast can be stabilized in both cases to maintain the new shape of the breast. Minimally scarring techniques can be used on many patients.
- Procedure:
- This surgery takes about 2 hours and is performed under full anaesthesia. After the procedure, the patient may stay at the hospital overnight. Self-dissolving stitches are used during this surgery. Thanks to waterproof bandages, the patient can take showers as early as the second day after the surgery. Patients who have had this surgery should not engage in any strenuous physical activities for 4 to 6 weeks post procedure. During this time period, patients are required to wear a special support bra. The first post surgery exam is performed 1 day after the procedure, the final exam 12 weeks post surgery.
