BOTULINUMTOXIN A
- Reasons to have this surgery:
- Typical wrinkle formation (frown lines, forehead wrinkles, laugh lines), especially in the top third of the face, can be attributed to over activity of the mimic musculature. Increased muscle strain is in part responsible for lip wrinkles and drooping corners of the mouth. Over time, the wrinkles become deeply engraved in the skin.
- The surgical technique:
- Various neurotoxins have been used for over 20 years to relieve muscle tension. The botulinum toxin A active ingredient has become widely accepted as a very effective and safe drug, in particular for treating spasticity. For the treatment of wrinkles, minimal quantities of the substance are injected into certain points in the skin using extremely fine canulae.
- Procedure:
- The effect sets in after 2-3 days and is fully developed after 2 weeks. In general, it lasts for 6 months. A pleasant side effect that frown line treatment patients often experience is reduced occurrences of migraines or tension headaches.
